Introduction

The Wood and Plastics Workshop provides a working environment where students can develop artistic projects using material-based approaches. Central to the work is an engagement with the specific properties of solid wood, wood-based materials, and various plastics – and the question of how these materials can be purposefully employed in artistic production. Craft fundamentals and experimental practice inform each other throughout.

Artistic Approaches

The workshop brings together traditional craft techniques and machine-based processes. Sawing, milling, sanding, shaping, and joining open up a broad range of artistic possibilities – from precise structural fabrication to free experimentation with material and form. The work produced ranges from sculptural works and objects to spatial constructions and installation elements.

Equipment and Infrastructure

A range of machines, tools, and workstations are available for working with wood and plastics, supporting both foundational techniques and more complex production processes. Individual machines and tools can also be used on a project basis or borrowed for specific tasks.

Using the Workshop

The workshop supervisor advises on the planning and technical realisation of individual projects and assists with the selection of suitable materials and processing methods. Materials are generally sourced and funded by students themselves; procurement through the workshop is also possible upon request.
