Alle zwei Jahre vergibt die Landeshauptstadt Mainz den mit 5.000 Euro dotierten Preis zur Förderung Mainzer Bildender Künstler. The Kunsthochschule Mainz is strong in two areas. First, it has retained the diploma program for its artistic disciplines. Second, it has a close dialogue between the theoretical disciplines of art education (kunstdidaktik) and visual theory/art theory (kunstbezogene theorie), for which it has the right to award doctoral degrees, and the artistic classes. This reflects the vibrant relationship between theory and practice that is unique to an art academy.
