Introductory information

The Printmaking Studio is a central hub for the artistic exploration of analogue printing techniques. Here, students work with traditional printmaking methods to develop their own contemporary visual style. The studio combines hands-on experience with materials with reflection on the art-historical and contemporary contexts of printmaking techniques.

Artistic approaches

The focus is on intaglio, relief and screen printing techniques. These include etching, woodcut, linocut, material printing and screen printing, among others. Working with printing plates, printing blocks, stencils and screens allows for both the production of multiple images and the experimentation with the printing process itself. A key element of the work is the direct experience of materials such as wood, linoleum, and metal, as well as handling ink, pressure, and paper. The workshop provides a space for material-based artistic practice, combining technical processes with conceptual image ideas.

Facilities and infrastructure

Two professionally equipped print labs with corresponding workstations are available for this work. The infrastructure enables various relief, intaglio and screen printing techniques to be implemented and is designed for continuous production processes. Consumables can be obtained through the workshop or brought in individually.

Use during studies

Access is granted following an introduction to one of the printmaking techniques, which is offered on a rotating basis each semester. Afterwards, students can use the workshop as an open production environment for their own artistic projects. The workshop staff provide technical consultation and support the development of individual printmaking works.
