Introduction

The workshop brings together three closely related areas of three-dimensional artistic production: metalworking, mould-making, and metal casting. It is designed for students working sculpturally who wish to realise their projects in durable, materially demanding forms.

Artistic Approaches

In metalworking, students acquire fundamental techniques for working with metal. Mould-making allows objects and forms to be reproduced or transferred through casting processes – using silicone as a mould material and plaster, concrete, or wax as casting materials. A particular focus is placed on the lost-wax process, a traditional casting technique in which a wax model is gradually replaced by liquid metal. This allows work to be cast in bronze, aluminium, or lead.

Equipment and Infrastructure

The workshop is equipped with machines and tools for metalworking, as well as the necessary infrastructure for mould-making and casting processes. Selected equipment and tools can be borrowed for individual projects.

Using the Workshop

Students can use the workshop as part of courses as well as for independent artistic projects. Individual consultations on the technical realisation of artistic work are available by appointment. Materials must be sourced and funded by students themselves.
