Profiles art didactics

At the University of Fine Arts Mainz, students can study the teacher training programme leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.). The programme qualifies students for teacher training (Referendariat) at grammar and comprehensive schools, for art education work in museums and exhibitions, cultural institutions and other areas of cultural education. There is also the possibility of doing a doctorate following the M.Ed. programme.

The staff of the Department of Art Education at the University of Art Mainz teach, learn and research together with students at the interface of art and education. Three aspects are central: art orientation, practical research and a critical perspective on discrimination. The department works with schools, cultural and educational institutions and self-organisations. Students have the opportunity to develop the conceptual foundations of an art education approach in a variety of ways through methodological, research and theoretical courses. The knowledge and perspectives acquired in this way are tested, deepened and reflected upon in practical projects. In addition, the department’s premises and website provide resources for students’ self-directed learning processes.
