The artistic teaching in the photography class aims to familiarize students with the artistic potential of the medium of photography. Students are enabled to develop individual artistic questions and to realize them in practice, so that they can embark on the path of finding their own form. Photography should be used from an artistic perspective. This means being less interested in an imitative depiction of the world than in designing counter-worlds, and as research into one’s own pictorial-photographic approach and form. This is accompanied by a sensitization and training of perception, image conventions should be recognized, questioned and, if necessary, reused for one’s own purposes or replaced by one’s own ideas.

The fact that teaching is based on the individual approaches of the artistically talented students allows for heterogeneity in the individual study biographies and thus different results in the manifestations of artistic work, which do not have to be tied to specific media. This means that, depending on the student’s interests, work with photography can be extended to other artistic fields such as installation, video, painting, so that genuine pictorial inventions are possible. The testing of one’s own ideas that have taken shape and the resulting works are accompanied, reflected upon and refined in constant exchange with the class. Showing and discussion are the main forms of teaching.
