    DAAD

    • The abbreviation DAAD stands for German Academic Exchange Service and refers to a funding organization supported by German universities as an association that organizes and promotes exchanges between students and academics worldwide. There are special programs for art students and graduates.

    PROMOS

    • Scholarships for stays abroad of up to six months are no longer awarded by the DAAD, but by the universities via PROMOS (“Program to Increase the Mobility of German Students”). JGU Mainz participates in PROMOS and announces the individual funding lines. The scholarships are then awarded in a quality-oriented selection process carried out by JGU; the awarding of scholarships is based on the funding guidelines of the DAAD The PROMOS scholarship cannot be combined with other funding awarded for a stay abroad. Funding is primarily provided for stays abroad outside of Europe; preference is given to study visits within the framework of JGU partnerships and cooperations.

    FORTHEM

    • In FORTHEM – Fostering Outreach within European Regions, Transnational Higher Education and Mobility, nine European universities are cooperating with the aim of improving student and staff mobility and facilitating new forms of cooperation. Students can apply for a short-term mobility program.

    Fulbright

    • The German-American Fulbright Program supports, among other things, one- to two-semester study visits by German students in the USA and US students in Germany.

    DEUTSCH-FRANZÖSISCHES JUGENDWERK

    • The FGYO awards annual France scholarships for a study visit of up to 5 months. You should have the necessary knowledge of French.

    DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION AND SKILLS – ENGLAND UND WALES

    • The DfES supports students who are studying full-time in England or Wales. The funding consists of paying the tuition fees. Depending on the parents’ income, the tuition fees are paid in full or in part.
