introductive information
The artistic curriculum of the photography class introduces students to the artistic potential of photography as a medium. They are encouraged to develop their own artistic ideas and bring them to life. This enables them to embark on a journey of discovering their own artistic form. Photography should be approached from an artistic perspective. This involves shifting the focus from imitative representation of the world to the creation of alternative realities and the development of one’s own visual-photographic approach and style. This involves sensitising and training perception: visual conventions should be recognised, questioned and, if necessary, repurposed or replaced with one’s own ideas.
As the teaching is based on the individual approaches of artistically gifted students, a variety of academic backgrounds and outcomes in artistic work are possible, and these do not have to be tied to a single medium. Depending on their interests, students can expand their work with photography to include other artistic fields such as installation, video or painting, thereby enabling genuine visual inventions. Exploring one’s own ideas and the resulting works is accompanied by constant exchange with the class for reflection and refinement. Presentation and discussion are the primary teaching methods.
