Lecture
Marcello Spada (Bologna, 1984) is a visual artist active between Italy and Germany. His work addresses issues of ownership, practices of borrowing, and citations in the digital sphere. He produces deceptive objects, often aligned with the legacy of post-war artists that showed a key interest in questioning the link between art and life and the discourse that conditions an artist’s motive and intentionality.
He studied Visual Arts at IUAV University Venice, at the HfBK Städelschule Frankfurt and the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam. He exhibited his work in public and private venues including La Quadriennale Rome, HangarBicocca Milan, Centro Luigi Pecci Prato, Viafarini Milan, LOCALEDUE Bologna, BASE Florence, TRIPLA Bologna, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa Venice, MMK Frankfurt, Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin, Weltkulturen Museum Frankfurt, Inox Copenhagen, X-Bank Amsterdam.
In 2019 he was awarded a travel grant by the Hessische Kulturstiftung. He is currently a resident at Artist Residency Schloss Balmoral and teaches this semester at the Academy of Fine Arts Mainz the seminar “A ball, a potato, the Earth”
