„Horses“

Megan Francis Sullivan (USA, 1975, Stamford, Connecticut) lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Sie studierte an The Cooper Union, School of Art in New York, an der Städelschule in Frankfurt und war Post-Graduate Fellow an der Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht.
Sullivans Arbeit nimmt schillernde Formen an, die zwischen historischen Konstellationen und Kontexten ebenso navigieren wie zwischen Subjektivitäten und Autorschaften. Neben institutionellen Einzelausstellungen u.a. im Neuen Essener Kunstverein (2019), in der Kunsthalle Bern (2016), Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp (2015) oder Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis (2014), nimmt das Publizieren und Herausgeben eine wichtige Rolle in ihrer Arbeit ein. Mit Fiona McGovern und Axel John Wieder war sie Mitherausgeberin von ‘The Disintegration of a Critic’ (2019, Sternberg Press), einer Sammlung der Village-Voice-Kolumne der Tanzkritikerin und lesbischen Aktivistin Jill Johnston. Künstlerbücher sind u.a. The Bathers (2016, Roma Publishers), A Catalogue Raisonné (2015, Objectif Exhibitions) und Die Hunterklasse – Praxistipps für Reiter, Trainer und Veranstalter (2008), mitherausgegeben von der Jan van Eyck Academie und dem FN-Verlag, Warendorf. 2016 gründete sie S*I*G, eine Zeitschrift, die sich der Veröffentlichung singulärer Essays widmet.
Seit April 2020 ist Megan Francis Sullivan Professorin der Klasse für Zeichnung an der Kunsthochschule Mainz.

Megan Francis Sullivan (USA, born 1975 in Stamford, Connecticut) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Cooper Union, School of Art in New York, the Städelschule in Frankfurt, and was a post-graduate fellow at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht.
Sullivan’s work takes on multifarious forms that navigate historical contigencies, authorship and artistic practice. In addition to institutional solo exhibitions at for example Neuer Essener Kunstverein (2019), Kunsthalle Bern (2016), Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp (2015), Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis (2014), publishing is an active part of her work. With Fiona McGovern and Axel John Wieder, she co-edited The Disintegration of a Critic (2019, Sternberg Press) featuring the collected Village Voice writings of art critic and lesbian activist Jill Johnston. Artist books include The Bathers (2016, Roma Publishers), A Catalogue Raisonné (2017, Objectif Exhibitions) and Die Hunterklasse – Praxistipps für Reiter, Trainer und Veranstalter (2008), a joint publication with the Jan van Eyck Academie and the FN-Verlag, Warendorf. In 2016 she founded S*I*G Verlag, a periodical dedicated to the publication of singular essays.
Since April 2020 Megan Francis Sullivan is Professor for the Klasse für Zeichnung at Kunsthochschule Mainz.
