Workshop with Assaf Gruber
The Bowling Alley on the Rhein a workshop with Assaf Gruber
Assaf Grüber will be giving a workshop at the Kunsthochschule Mainz from the 12.6-14-6 and it is open to all students! (participation limited to 12)
In 1986, the eminent film director, Michelangelo Antonioni published the book The Bowling Alley on the Tiber- Tales of a Director. In the book, the filmmaker who claimed that his thoughts are only about films, offers thirty three pieces describing ideas for films as yet produced. Those stories were never filmed. “I’m a director who writes, not a writer” Antonioni said as a comment about the The Bowling Alley on the Tiber.
Like Antonioni’s book, many artistic projects are envisioned in one medium but are being pursued in another.
The workshop will explore the variety of artistic possibilities that exist when the artist positions herself primarily as a storyteller without limiting oneself to a medium, format or structure.
With special attention to the process of research, we will engage with the politics of storytelling methods. How to transmit our ideas and shape their digestion, as the production of histories is intimately entwined with the generation of possible futures.
